Sandy Gennaro joins the guys this week for a career spanning discussion that goes deeper than just the music.
Sandy has toured and/or recorded with: Blackjack, Cyndi Lauper, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bo Diddley, Johnny Winter, The Monkees, Joe Lynn Turner, Michael Bolton, Benny Mardones, Craaft, The Mamas and Papas and Jon Paris. He has recorded several Top 10 singles and has performed for for over a billion fans spanning his 50 year career.
Sandy has also made numerous TV appearances including The Tonight Show, The Grammy Awards, The American Music Awards, The MTV New Years Ball, and The Late Show with David Letterman among others. He is also a favored councelor at the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camps.
In this long-form discussion, Sandy shares stories of growing up in New York, a passion for the Yankees, his early musical influences, experiencing KISS playing in a small Queens club and many other great stories. As is known with Decibel Geek, KISS stories are always of interest and Sandy has a lot of tie-ins to KISS including his time working Bruce Kulick in Blackjack as well as a stint of coaching Peter Criss in preparation for the KISS Alive IV Symphony shows in Australia.
Sandy is also a speaker and, as you'll hear, has a knack for solid, inspirational advice. His advice on persevering through adversity and sticking to your dreams comes through loud and clear in this conversation.
Sandy will be performing this Friday, August 25th at Cobra Nashville with his band Desolation Angels (A Salute to Bad Company). It's the kickoff to Rock n Pod weekend in Nashville that will have Sandy at the preparty on 8/25 as well as at the Nashville Rock n Pod Expo for a signing session and a recording session with Zilch: A Monkees Podcast.
