Decibel Geek Podcast

We're back this week to tackle July through December for our 1996 Year in Review Pt2. July sees Layne Staley taking the stage for the last time. The Alice in Chains vocalist would overdose after a show in Kansas City, MO and never perform live again. Also in July, the Spice Girls hit big while scientists clone the first sheep. We're not saying there's a connection. We also aren't saying there isn't one. We discuss these stories and spin tunes from Jack Russell and Sublime.

The month of August in this 1996 Year in Review Pt2 is a busy one. Oasis is hitting their peak on the strength of 1995's 'What's the Story Morning Glory' album. The band is selling out shows all over the world while getting massive press for shooting off their mouths. Conversely, Ramones were wrapping up a three decade career filled with great songs as well as disappointment.  We take on these subjects as well as play cuts from Type O Negative and Michael Schenker Group.

1996 Year in Review Pt2

September of 1996 contains a bunch of great music. In this 1996 Year in Review Pt2 episode we spin fresh tracks from Thunder, Rush, Neurotic Outsiders, and Tool. Moreover, October sees the trend of solid rock music continue with releases by Marilyn Manson, Motorhead, Dio, and a greatest hits album by Van Halen. Speaking of Van Halen, the band shocked the world at the MTV Video Music Awards as the band reunited on stage with original singer David Lee Roth to present an award. The reunion was over before it began, however, and the whole thing fizzled quickly due to infighting. We discuss the Van Halen reunion that wasn't in this episode.

The month of October 1996 included a big announcement by guitar hero Slash as he announced his departure from Guns N Roses. This announcement cemented most music fans opinion that the band was finished. Additionally, October included new music from Ugly Kid Joe, Corrosion of Conformity and a strange new release from LA Guns. We share some tracks from these bands and discuss some of the reasons behind Slash's big decision.

November and December of 1996 included newsworthy items such as Bill Clinton defeating Bob Dole in the US election and the launch of the Mars Global Surveyor. New music from Gotthard, Poison, and Nerf Herder is unleashed on the world. We take a look at these stories this week.

So many subjects, so many songs, and so much more including Top Movies of 1996 and classic commercials! We hope you enjoy 1996 Year in Review Pt2 and SHARE with a friend!

This week we look at 1996, a year that celebrated the past while looking to the future. In part 1, we dig into the first half of 1996; and it was a busy six months. January includes stories on the evils of Alternative Rock and near fatal incidents involving some big name celebrities. Additionally, it included new releases from ACCEPT and Mr. Big.

We head into February of 1996 by discussing some fantastic rock releases. It was a month that included fresh material from Bad Religion and Enuff Z'nuff. It also featured new releases by veteran artists like Deep Purple as well as Bruce Dickinson.  February 28th was a monumental day for KISS fans as the original band appeared in full regalia at the Grammy Awards. This week we give you our reactions to this event as well as our take on the mania that was the KISS Reunion Tour.

1996 Year in Review Part 1

[/caption]

The month of March, 1996 was a busy on in the rock and metal world. Judas Priest returned with a new lead singer, KISS released MTV Unplugged, and Stone Temple Pilots solidified their standing with Tiny Music. Additionally, the Beatles returned to the top of the heap with their Anthology album release.

The big story of April 1996 is certainly the Unabomber arrest. Ted Kaczynski was found holed up in a Montana cabin after years of harm. Also, Local H releases their As Good As Dead album on April 16th. We're not drawing any parallels (or are we?).

May of 1996 was chock full of great music releases. New material by hard rock stalwarts Scorpions and Great White was premiered. Soundgarden wrapped up their golden age with Down on the Upside. Additionally, new music from King's X and a fantastic one-and-done album by Imperial Drag.

We close out this week's episode discussing June of 1996. News stories covered include the Communications Decency Act of 1996 and the kickoff to KISS' reunion tour at Detroit's Tiger Stadium. Music covered in June includes Zakk Wylde's first solo effort, Book of Shadows, and the aforementioned KISS with their You Wanted the Best release.

We had a blast looking back at the first half of 1996. Included in this episode are discussions of sports stories of the year as well as popular television shows. All that and, of course, plenty of classic commercials.

5 Stars - from Mark Adams

The Decibel Geek Podcast is a must listen every week for me. I became a faithful listener about a year ago for several reasons.

1) The Music: I always get to listen to great music. The variety of tunes featured is top notch. Into some of the bands more than others, but the exposure to music I haven't heard before is always appreciated.

2) The Guests: Chris and Aaron have what it takes to make an interview worth
listening to. The stars and guest that are on are always entertaining. The insight and humor is always appreciated. I learn something I didn't know almost every time.

3) The Variety: I love themed shows, Toddzilla, KISSmas in July, The featured shows (RUSH, AC/DC) and especially the Radio Sucks episodes. A huge shout
out to the Y&T episode you had. They have always been a top 3 band for me and it was great for them to get the exposure they deserve.

Thats about it. I will continue to make this podcast a weekly must listen. Great Job guys!!

The guys are back this week after realizing their Canadian friends were too busy with their own podcast to cover their normal Thanksgiving duties. For five years, Rich "Meister" Dillon and Wally "Gator" Norton devotedly filled in on the last week of Thanksgiving so Chris and Aaron could enjoy time with their families and celebrate their holiday. However, this year the calls and emails went unanswered and the guys were forced to go back out and knock out an episode. The wives are none too pleased.

Those Hosers are Fired

[/caption]

Since Rich and Wally are so caught up in their new CGCM podcast, the guys decided to just rip them off and do some of their routines (with a little tweaking for needed improvement). You'll get some special segments and a Playlist Battle that featured songs picked by each host. Artists spun include UDO, Edguy, Megadeth, Anthrax, and a bunch more. Be sure to keep up with the Decibel Geek facebook page for a poll you can vote in to pick the winning playlist.

The Canadians seem pretty full of themselves. They seem to think they don't need the exposure that Decibel Geek can bring. To that, the guys say "Those Hosers are Fired!"

Rating: ★★★★★

I know, what you want! You want, what I got! And that's a 5 star review. This is a great podcast, I love the Albums Unleashed features, the multitude of Vinnie Vincent shows, and the annual KISSmas in July specials. This show has turned me on to some bands I didn't know much about, specifically Tora Tora and Roxy Blue, which I had only read about before. I can't recommend this podcast enough.

Nashville music scene legend and dear friend of the show Todd Austin returns for Six Songs Toddzilla Thinks You Should Hear.

If you are new to the show and unfamiliar with Toddzilla, be sure to familiarize yourself with his first two appearances on Decibel Geek. His first appearance, Roth-Era Van Halen Discussion, introduced the listeners to a master storyteller. Todd's memories of growing up a Van Halen fan in the late 70's and his hilarious stories of seeing the band live made him an instant hit to Decibel Geek listeners.

[caption id="attachment_32949" align="alignright" width="300"]Six Songs Toddzilla decibel geek podcast

Six Songs Toddzilla

[/caption]

Toddzilla's second appearance on the show focused on his story. Conversation with Toddzilla included stories of Todd's many years as a professional musician (including highs and lows), his unique appearance, run-ins with legends such as Robert Plant and Billy Gibbons, a strange music store encounter with Vinnie Vincent, and an Ace Frehley story and impression that will have you cackling like a spaceman from Jendell.

Things were no laughing matter, however, earlier this year when Todd's life was turned upside down due to a house fire that destroyed his home, most of his belongings, and nearly all of his beloved pets. The music community (including many Decibel Geek listeners) rallied around Todd to chip in to a GoFundMe account that was put in place to help Todd and his partner Abbie replace much of what was lost.

In this Six Songs episode, Toddzilla gives us an update on where things stand in the recovery process, stories about the fundraiser and an incredible benefit concert, details on his projects including Funkhammer, Jones World, and Purple Masquerade, as well as fantastic stories that coincide with each of his Six Songs choices. We wrap things up this week by spinning one of our personal favorite Funkhammer tunes.

Chris & Aaron return this week for a Vinnie Vincent Discussion. With the internet ablaze in excitement for the upcoming Atlanta KISS Expo that will feature the ankh warrior as special guest, the guys thought it would be fun to discuss Vinnie's history. In this long-form discussion your hosts talk about Vinnie's early years. Born into a musical family in Bridgeport, CT; Vincent John Cusano took to the guitar at a very early age. In this Vinnie Vincent Discussion, Chris and Aaron talk about Vinnie's early musical connections including work with Dan Hartman, The Edgar Winter Group, and Treasure.

Vinnie's pre-KISS career is an interesting subject. After working with Treasure, Vinnie headed to Los Angeles, where he became a staff songwriter for the hit tv show 'Happy Days.' In this Vinnie Vincent Discussion, Chris and Aaron discuss his time working on the show as well as his work on the spinoff 'Joanie Loves Chachi.'

[caption id="attachment_32393" align="alignright" width="300"]Vinnie Vincent Discussion

Vinnie Vincent Discussion

[/caption]

An interesting pre-KISS project took place next with Vinnie joining forces with ex-New England members Hirsh Gardner, Jimmy Waldo, and Gary Shea. The project was called Warrior and had Vinnie not only playing guitar but singing lead vocals. The guys discuss this short-lived, but awesome, project. You can get these tracks in CD form from Cherry Red Records HERE.

The guys also discuss Vinnie's time in KISS, adding guitar work and songwriting to 1982's 'Creatures of the Night' as well as 1983's 'Lick it Up.' A lot has been written and speculated about this era of the band. Accounts vary depending on who you ask. In this episode, the guys discuss both sides of the issues.

Upon Vinnie's exit from KISS, he got to work building the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. As per usual, this was also a sticky process with numerous differing accounts from members and former members. While the first album was amazing, it was fraught with drama before it was even released. Chris and Aaron discuss the first album, the lead singer situation, and the tracks.

The sophomore album from the Invasion, All Systems Go, would be Mark Slaughter's first and the band's last. With a more commercial sound and a toned down look, it appeared the band was poised for breakthrough success. Unfortunately, the band was falling apart by the time the album was released. The guys discuss the greatness of this second album, the drama behind some of it, and give their take on why this band should have been much bigger.

The ensuing years after the Invasion split were difficult for Vinnie Vincent. Through different struggles, some good did come from this period; highlighted by his brief songwriting reunion with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley for 'Revenge'. These collaborations yielded some great results such as I Just Wanna, Heart of Chrome, and the amazing Unholy. The guys discuss this period of Vinnie's life and career and also touch on the Guitarmageddon/Guitars from Hell sessions that are still unreleased to this day.

In the past couple months, a flury of Vinnie Vincent news has gotten fans incredibly excited. The announcement of his appearance at the upcoming Atlanta KISS Expo in January of 2018, has fans from across the globe very excited. Chris and Aaron share in this excitement and discuss what they think is going to happen at the expo as well as theories about what Vinnie may be up to going forward. There have also been a number of Vinnie fans that are Decibel Geek listeners that have asked if Chris and Aaron will be attending the expo. The guys will address that status as well as communications between Chris and the promoter in this episode.

It's an exciting time to be a Vinnie Vincent fan. We hope you enjoy Vinnie Vincent Discussion and SHARE with a friend.

When a planned episode gets shelved due to audio issues, we improvise this week with KISS Lightning Round - Ep291. We put out a last-minute call for KISS-related questions and topics and, boy, did you guys respond! In this 2 hour-plus loose discussion, we tip a few beers and try to address as many KISS-related topics that the listeners through our way via the Decibel Geek facebook page.

We can talk KISS non-stop and this week is no different. However, we definitely disagree on a number of facets of the Hottest Band in the Land. In this long-form talk, we touch on all sorts of subjects including the current lineup makeup situation, the possibilities that would've altered history had Vinnie Vincent stayed in the band, why Chris won't see KISS live anymore, and the limitations that certain members of the band are facing.

KISSmas in July kicks off with an in-depth talk with members of the Gene Simmons Band. Guitarists Ryan Cook, Jeremy Asbrock, and Philip Shouse have been garnering rave reviews since their debut in March of 2017. Those names should be familiar to Decibel Geek listeners and readers as they've made numerous appearances on the podcast to discuss The Big Rock Show, Hair of the Dog, and Guitar Duos. They are also members of Thee Rock n Roll Residency; a weekly covers show that has been wowing Nashville crowds with its spot-on renditions of classic rock hits and deep cuts. Additionally, Thee Rock n Roll Residency has a rotating cast of musicians that come from all eras of rock history.

The Gene Simmons Band has been impressing die-hard KISS fans at every show on this tour. What started as a six show commitment has turned into a full-on world tour with more dates being released recently.

In this conversation, the Gene Simmons Band shares the circumstances that led to them being hired. Moreover, they discuss their personal KISStories and their take on the band's history.

One of the bigger reasons for the success of the Gene Simmons Band has been the wealth of deep KISS cuts that are being performed. Songs such as Charisma, Got Love for Sale, and Almost Human among many others have been thrilling KISS fans en masse. In this discussion, the guys tell Chris and Aaron how those songs were chosen as well as what songs have been rehearsed and are possibly going to be included in future setlists. Furthermore, they discuss the upcoming addition of drummer Brent Fitz to the band. Brent is a member of the extended KISS family tree; known for his work in the band Union with Bruce Kulick.

Gene Simmons plans to release a massive box set later in 2017. The set is to contain a large amount of demo and unreleased material. In this long-form talk, the guys share some details they've learned about the box set and plans for it.

Donnie Vie appears on the Decibel Geek Podcast this week for a revealing conversation.  This long-form discussion covers a life and career of ups, downs, triumphs, rejections, celebration, turmoil and ultimately, rediscovery. Vie, known by many as the controversial front man for Chicago greats Enuff Z'nuff has churned out an impressive catalog of work. However, demons (both individually and collectively) seemed to overshadow the band at every step. Shifting musical climates,  substance abuse, changing members, and even death threatened to eliminate Enuff Z'nuff but the band pushed on; eventually without Donnie Vie. It's been an interesting ride to say the least.

In this long-form discussion, Donnie Vie discusses the band's early days including how he met bassist Chip Z'nuff, his thoughts on late-guitarist Derek Frigo, wild gigs and after-gig activity, and tons more. Additionally, Vie discusses the stories behind many Enuff Z'nuff songs as well as his thoughts on how songwriting credits were given.

Also in this long-form talk, Vie discusses his current situation including how he's adapting to his newfound sobriety. Additionally, he sheds light on some interesting projects that he's currently working on both musically and otherwise. It's a deep dive into one of the most unique people to ever appear on the Decibel Geek Podcast.

Chris & Aaron continue the love-fest for Geddy, Neil, and Alex this week with RUSH Covered in Metal. There are a lot of cover versions of RUSH songs out there by a lot of different artists. What your hosts found out in research for this episode is that there are a lot of bad RUSH covers. However, this week you're gonna get the best gems that they could find in a sea of mediocrity. Clearly, RUSH is a very difficult band to successfully cover. Try to put too much of your own spin on it and you trash what people remember. Try to straight up mimic them and you come off sounding like a poor imitation. This week you'll get harder-edged, unique (but not too unique) renditions of RUSH classics.

Chris & Aaron return this week to discuss The Heavier Side of RUSH; songs that kick a little harder from the legendary Canadian trio. RUSH, formed in 1968, and solidified in 1971 with a lineup of Geddy Lee (bass/vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and John Rutsey (drums) would find aid in manager Ray Danniels and producer Terry Brown. The self-titled 1974 debut album was filled with hard rock numbers reminiscent of Led Zeppelin. The band would ultimately break on the strength of the song 'Working Man' receiving airplay on WMMS in Cleveland. Rutsey, however, would have to retire from the road due to health complications. Enter Neil Peart. The multi-talented drummer had incredible skill not only on the kit but would go on to become the band's principal lyricist. From that point, RUSH carved their own path; releasing trailblazing albums that straddled the worlds of hard and progressive rock; building a rabid following along the way. 40-plus years later and RUSH sit, rightfully, in the upper echelon of rock music history.

DBG VIP and Decibel Geek writer, Steven Michael, joins Chris and Aaron for Under the ACDC Influence; a deep dive into bands that were influenced by the Australian hard rock giants. Steve and the guys discuss their love for ACDC, the evidence of their influence on rock and roll history, and spin a bunch of tracks by a bunch of bands that were influenced by Angus Young and company. Many fads come and go, and with them so do many bands. What is the flavor of the week will soon be a punchline to a joke told decades later. ACDC never fell into that trap. Through numerous trends including Prog Rock, Punk Rock, Disco, New Wave, Glam Metal, and Grunge, the Australian-born legends stayed the course; continuing to pump out headbanging, hooky rock n roll. This consistency has produced an influence that has transcended multiple generations of fans.

Stevie Rachelle joins the guys this week for Albums Unleashed - TUFF What Comes Around Goes Around. In this long-form discussion, Stevie discusses the circumstances that led to him fronting TUFF. Originally from Wisconsin, Rachelle was bitten by the bug early and headed west to Los Angeles in search of fame. However, it's not instant success. In this talk, Rachelle reflects on his audition with TUFF, what led to his hiring, and the band's rise on the Sunset Strip.

TUFF - Albums Unleashed What Comes Around

TUFF - Albums Unleashed What Comes Around

TUFF would slug it out on the Sunset Strip for a while; building their core audience at clubs such as Gazarri's, The Whisky, Perkins Palace, and The Country Club. During this time, they'd be rejected by dozens of labels. Determined, the band would continue to tread the boards on regional tours through the Southern and Midwestern United States until Atlantic Records came calling.

What Comes Around Goes Around, released in 1991, was produced by Howard Benson and mixed by Sir Arthur Payson.

This episode features some great behind-the-scenes stories. We hope you enjoy Albums Unleashed - TUFF What Comes Around with Stevie Rachelle and SHARE with a friend!

When a scheduled interview is derailed by their call recording program, Skype, going down, the guys decide to crack a few beers and bring you an off-the-cuff conversation that features a number of things that are offered in their DBG VIP subscription program on Patreon. In this long-form discussion, the guys go over some current rock news events including Zakk Wylde rejoining Ozzy Osbourne's band, Local H winning a contest to open for Metallica on their upcoming tour, and KISS (of course). The news/shooting the breeze stuff is a regular feature of the DBG VIP program entitled The Chris & Aaron Show. There are now over 50 episodes of this segment and they are available for all DBG VIP's. Find out how you can become a DBG VIP at https://www.patreon.com/decibelgeek.

Skype's Down!

Another DBG VIP feature that you get free this week is the album tournament. In this segment, the guys each pick 16 CD's from the massive collection in the Decibel Geek studio. The CD's are pitted head to head in matches until one winner emerges. The tournament in this week's episode is a tough one that causes some difficult decisions to be made.

Chris and Aaron have a great episode planned out for next week but wanted to get an episode out this week and thought you'd like to get a taste of what the VIP's are getting. We hope you enjoy Skype's Down - Ep281 and SHARE with a friend!

Guitarist and KISS co-writer Scott Van Zen sits down with the guys this week for a long-form talk about his life, guitar playing, and the experience of writing with our favorite demon, Gene Simmons. In this hour-plus discussion, Scott talks about his early years in central California. Inspired by a wide cross-section of guitarists ranging from Jeff Beck to Johnny Winter to Ted Nugent to Eddie Van Halen; Scott Van Zen worked his way through the ranks to become one of the California's best guitarists in the 1980's and 90's. A musical partnership with singer Ken Tamplin would lead Van Zen to a friendship with KISS' Gene Simmons. In this discussion, Scott talks about Gene's influence not only in songwriting, but in business. His advice has paid dividends for the guitarist over the years.

The guys go back in time this week as they bring you 1982 Year in Review Pt1. In this long-form trip through the first half of the year, Chris & Aaron cover a lot of ground. 1982 saw some pretty historic beginnings in technology and pop culture including the Commodore 64 and Late Night with David Letterman. 1982 was also a year of loss in the entertainment community. Notably, the losses of John Belushi and Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads left their mark on the movie and music industries. Speaking of Osbourne, he would cement his status as a controversial figure with two news-making incidents that shocked many.

In this episode, the guys break it all down and cover the sports, movies, and pop culture of 1982. And, as always, classic commercials!

Rikki Rockett joins the guys this week for Albums Unleashed Poison Look What the Cat Dragged In. In this long-form discussion, Rikki shares stories from the early days of Poison including the decision to move from Pennsylvania to Hollywood in the early 1980's. Also in the episode, Rikki talks about the departure of original guitarist Matt Smith and an audition process that would go down to a head to head battle between Slash and CC DeVille.

In this Albums Unleashed Poison Look What the Cat Dragged In special, Rikki reflects on the recording process of the album. Producer Rick Browde was on board early for the sessions but things got tense quickly due to creative differences. In this episode, Rikki also discusses the struggle to survive in a Hollywood scene that was very unforgiving. Those struggles would be played out lyrically in some of the songs. While the album was recorded on a meager budget and on limited time, it would go on to spawn three big singles and sell 4 million copies worldwide.

Albums Unleashed Poison Look What The Cat Dragged In

Albums Unleashed Poison

Albums Unleashed Look What the Cat Dragged In also features a track-by-track breakdown of the album including song inspirations and production techniques used. It's an hour-plus of discussion about a remarkable album from a very transitional time in popular music.

The Decibel Geek podcast would like to thank Sher Bach, Brandon Gibbs, Kenny Bailey, and the entire Devil City Angels team for their help in securing this interview. Be sure to check out Devil City Angels when they come to your town!

Before we get to the interview, Chris & Aaron give you the inside details of the upcoming Nashville Rock n Pod Expo. Taking place August 26, 2017, the expo will feature rock podcasters from all over North America, vinyl/memorabilia dealers, and rock celebrities and personalities mingling with fans. Bassist Rik Fox returns to Decibel Geek this week for Albums Unleashed - Steeler. Fronted by vocalist Ron Keel, Steeler had migrated west from Nashville. Upon his arrival, Keel would realize he needed new players to compete with a burgeoning Sunset Strip scene that included rising stars such as Motley Crue and Quiet Riot. In this long form discussion, Rik shares his memories of auditioning for Steeler, his meeting with drummer Mark Edwards, and the circumstances that would lead to Swedish hotshot guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen joining the band. Upon his arrival, Malmsteen certainly made his presence felt. In this discussion, Rik shares some entertaining stories of the eccentric shredder including a very tense moment in rehearsal between Malmsteen and Keel.

Albums Unleashed Steeler decibel geek podcast

Albums Unleashed - Steeler

Also in this discussion, Fox shares his personal feelings of the recording process of the Steeler album as well as memories of particular shows on the Sunset Strip. Steeler was a very well-known band in the Hollywood area and would pack clubs regularly. In this long-form talk, Rik recalls a show opening up for Quiet Riot that took place as the Metal Health album was taking off.

As the bassist of Steeler, Rik Fox was a member of one of the most pivotal bands in L.A heavy metal history. Steeler, while a popular act of the era that had great songs, did not seem to have the all-for-one-and-one-for-all type of relationship that many other bands had. According to Fox, tensions mounted as the band's popularity began to rise. Issues with Malmsteen's critique of the material and songwriting led to growing tension between the guitarist and Keel. In this discussion, Rik also shares his memories of the end of his version of Steeler including how he was let go from the band.

Rock & Roll will never die!

by jcapone3rd on Jan 31, 2017
Rating: ★★★★★

Found Decibel Geek when Chris did a guest shot on Inappropriate Earl podcast and figured I'd give them a chance. After all, anyone who talks fondly about the Vinnie Vincent Invasion can't be that bad... Needless to say I was hooked after two episodes and have now begun my journey through the archives! I love the open format of the show. Whether they are introducing me to obscure bands and songs I've never heard of before, or giving their own personal insights to the music I grew up with (I'm 43 - so do your own math ;p), each episode has been a fun ride. A few years ago, Gene Simmins claimed "Rock & Roll is dead"... but with guys like the Decibel Geeks serving as Defenders of the Faith, the Spirit of Rock will Keep on Rollin' and give you a Reason to Live! Ok, enough bad puns. Give them a listen and let them take you Over the Edge! Up the Irons! \m/

Drummer Bobby Rock joins the guys this week for Albums Unleashed Vinnie Vincent Invasion All Systems Go. In this long-form discussion, Bobby goes into detail on the tour leading up to the recording of this sophomore album; including his recollection of equipment being confiscated due to a pending lawsuit filed by former New England drummer Hirsh Gardner against Vinnie Vincent.

A lot of tension was building around the recording of All Systems Go with pressure coming down from Chrysalis label heads pushing for more restrained playing from Vincent. That tension would grow to a boil as label moves and band machinations began to cause a separation between the members of the band. In this long form discussion, Bobby shares his feelings on this pressure as well as how the band reacted to it through the recording process.

All Systems Go

In this Albums Unleashed special, Bobby Rock discusses the songs on All Systems Go and why certain songs didn't get the push they didn't deserve such as the lack of video for opening track, Ashes to Ashes. Other items discussed include a managerial change in the band during the recording process as well as a tour that was in the works with another guitar hero that fell through. Near the end of the discussion, Bobby is asked about his interest in the off-chance that he'd be asked to be part of an Invasion reunion. His answer might surprise you.

Bobby Rock is currently drumming for Lita Ford. You can keep track of Bobby at the links below. We hope you enjoy Albums Unleashed Vinnie Vincent Invasion All Systems Go and SHARE with a friend!

Chris and Aaron return this week to countdown their Top 10 albums of the year that was in Best of 2016 - Ep269. In this 2 hour-plus episode, your hosts find themselves looking back on a year that had many highs as well as lows. The music world lost a ton of talent; causing many to label it the "worst year ever." While those losses certainly stung the guys as well, they prove in this episode that there was a ton of great music released in 2016 including albums from legends such as Metallica, Megadeth, Suicidal Tendencies, and Testament.

They Got it Right (This Time)!

Great podcast! They have finally hit their stride! For those of you who don't know, these dudes have been at this podcasting thing for quite some time. They may have changed their names since their original podcasts, but I was able to figure out their ruse. ("Czynszak" - really,... that's the best you could come up with?) You see back in the day, Chirs Sinsack and Aaron Pinto hosted a great YES podcast called "Close to the Edge of Our Lonely Hearts". Unfortunately, it only lasted a couple of episodes, because the shows lasted for 12 hours due to the self-indulgent nature of prog rock. ITunes cyber police pulled it for breaking bandwidth rules and the guys were without a show. A few months later, I stumbled on to a Juice Newton fanatics podcast called "Juice Box" and recognized some familiar voices. However, that show didn't last long either since Aaron kept falling asleep during the taping and because of the fact that there were only 3 listeners (Chris apparently had multiple accounts). Then I heard this fantastic podcast called Decibel Geek that covered all things Hard Rock & Metal (and covered it really well!). Although the names had been changed to protect the innocent, it was definitely Chris & Aaron. These guys do a hell of a job bringing fresh perspectives to the genre and a lot of it's sub-genres in the metal world. On a weekly basis you can expect great interviews, amazing knowledge of the bands & eras and lots of laughs with guys that seem like your friends back home. 5 starz all the way!
